What’s a “Roycroft Artisan-At-Large”?
Elbert Hubbard founded the most successful and long-lived Arts & Crafts community in East Aurora, NY in 1895. The Roycroft didn’t survive the stock market crash of 1929 but its tenet of “working with the head, hand and heart” lives on in Arts & Crafts Revival artisans today. Every year, the Roycrofters At Large Association (R.A.L.A.) juries in artists and artisans working in the Revival and in the spirit of the Roycrofters. They are authorized to use the double-R “Mark” on their work for the next year and are eligible to show in the Summer and Winter Roycroft shows.
